Today, The Boynton Beach Faith Based Community Development Corporation, The City of Boynton Beach, and The Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency celebrated as two families were welcomed into their new homes at Poinciana Garden. Poinciana Garden is a part of The Model Block Project, which broke ground in March of 2015. The Model Block Project is a collaboration created to revitalize an entire block west of Seacrest along W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and N.W. 11th Avenue. The scope of work includes building new for-sale single-family homes, streetscape, and new utilities. As of the end of 2015, two homes have been constructed and sold and two additional homes are in the process of being constructed. At the completion of the project, approximately fifteen new homes could be built, creating stability for the neighborhood. This project is a part of the The City of Boynton Beach and the CRA’s goals to reduce slum and blight in the area by providing safe, affordable housing for families in the community.
Poinciana Garden is located near Poinciana Elementary School. These neighborhood improvements have been conducive to creating a safe environment for the children. The sidewalk improvements have assisted children walking to school. The neighborhood has been designed to welcome families to the Heart of Boynton area, and with Family Dollar opening this past October, groceries are now within walking distance of the locality.
Today the new homeowners were able to take part in a ribbon cutting involving dignitaries such as Mayor Steven B. Grant, Vice Mayor Mack McCray, Boynton Beach City Manager Lori LaVerriere, and the CRA’s Executive Director Vivian Brooks, along with many others that have played an instrumental role in the project. With smiling faces, they accepted the keys to their new home. These homes stand for new and positive changes to the Heart of Boynton Community.
